Stuart Condie shortlisted for Retreat West Novel Prize

Updated: Dec 8, 2020

Congratulations to Chalk Circle’s very own Stuart Condie, one of just eight authors whose first novel, The Uganda Sails Wednesday, has been shortlisted for the Retreat West Novel Prize 2018.

The Retreat West Novel Prize is an annual prize looking for new, unagented authors with exciting novels to share. You can read more about Retreat West here.

The shortlist was announced in November 2018 by judge and Retreat West founder, Amanda Saint, an author and publisher whose debut novel As If I Were A River, was a NetGalley Top 10 Book of the Month, a Book Magnet Blog Top 20 Book of 2016 and longlisted for the 2016 Guardian Not The Booker Prize.

Unpublished authors were invited to send the first 7,500 words of their novel and a synopsis from which a longlist and shortlist were selected.

Amanda will read the full manuscripts of the final eight titles, announcing the winner in March 2019. ‘There are so many great story ideas and talented writers on the list . . . I’m really excited to read more of these compelling stories.’

The winner of the 1st Prize can look forward to a standard publishing contract with Retreat West Books for a paperback and ebook edition of their novel, plus a £500 advance.

Everyone at Chalk Circle wishes Stuart the very best of luck with his novel.
